A table starts as a board in our timber store
Every table begins as boards of oak, ash, beech, elm, cherry or walnut that have air-dried in our timber store for at least a year. We choose and match them so the grain runs the length of the top, glue them up, and let the top settle for a week before it is shaped, sanded by hand and finished. Nothing is veneered and nothing is chipboard.

Finished by hand, the way you will use it
Most of our tables are oiled: three coats of plant oil or hardwax oil rubbed in by hand, which leaves the wood looking and feeling like wood, and a mark comes out at home with a fine sanding pad and a little oil. For a pale wood kept pale there is white oil or the old Danish soap finish; for a surface you never think about, matt lacquer; for a dark room, a black stain.
Illustrative testimonials
Illustrative: invented for this demonstration store, not said by real customers.
We designed our table on a Sunday evening, and the workshop wrote back with the week it would be ready. It was.
Two of them brought the table in, fitted the legs and checked it was level before they left. Nothing for us to do but sit down.
Everything we have from the workshop is solid wood, and it feels like it. The oil asks for a little care, but the marks come out.
